One Get-Away

“Escape” is the story of a convict fleeing from an English prison. John Galsworthy wrote it; Winthrop Ames produced it and Leslie Howard acts the leading role. A Baltimore reporter asked Howard if he had ever visited a penal institution to obtain “local color.”
“I was in Sing Sing once–to play there,” Howard replied.
“What–a show like this?” asked the interviewer.
“No, it would not do to give this play in a prison. Even the name, ‘Escape,’ would bar it.”
“What was the show you gave before the prisoners?”
The newspaperman was delighted with the star’s reply:
“Outward Bound.”
